Designing for Impact: Health & Safety Illustrations for Young Learners

I believe design's greatest power is its ability to make complex information clear, accessible, and human. In partnership with Ecosan Services Foundation, I had the opportunity to create two impactful educational books for children in India, tackling urgent public health topics with empathy and story.

Going Back to School" — A Guide to COVID-19 Safety

The Context:

During the global pandemic, there was a critical need to help children understand new, complex safety rules in a way that wasn't frightening. The goal was to create a simple and reassuring visual guide for returning to school in the 'new normal'.

My Role & Process:

As the illustrator, I was responsible for turning health guidelines into a series of clear, positive, and easy-to-follow visuals. The style was intentionally simple and friendly to help kids feel empowered, not scared, by the new routines.

Medh’s Carefree days — Breaking Stigmas Around Menstrual Health
The Challenge:
In many parts of India, menstruation is a taboo topic, leading to misinformation and shame that can cause girls to miss school. The challenge was to create a children's book that could gently explain the science and importance of menstrual hygiene, framing it as a natural and healthy process rather than something to be hidden.

My Role & Process:
As the illustrator, my role was to bring Medha's story to life. I started by researching and speaking with community members to ensure the visuals would be relatable and respectful. This project was also a lesson in resourcefulness; without a drawing tablet at the time, I drew each illustration by hand, scanned it, and meticulously colored it using a mouse in Photoshop. The focus was on creating a warm, friendly style that would make the characters feel like friends and the information less intimidating.
